The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/200 MC4 is a high-capacity, industrial-grade solar charge controller designed to manage large PV arrays with precision and safety. It supports 48 V battery systems and can deliver up to 200 A of charge current, making it ideal for large-scale off-grid systems, commercial installations, or hybrid storage setups.
This model features four independent MPPT trackers, allowing you to configure and optimise up to four separate PV strings for maximum energy harvest. It accepts a wide PV input voltage range (65 V to 450 V DC) and starts up at 120 V, giving great flexibility in system design. The controller offers galvanic isolation between PV and battery sides for enhanced safety. It also monitors PV isolation resistance, protecting against degraded insulation at high voltages.
Built for long service life, the enclosure is made of steel in a rugged blue finish, with an IP21 rating. The unit dimensions are 487 × 434 × 146 mm and it weighs 13.7 kg, yet it remains relatively efficient thanks to fan-assisted cooling and a highly efficient power conversion design. The MPPT algorithm is multi-stage adaptive, and the controller can reach up to 96% peak efficiency.
Connectivity is comprehensive: you get Bluetooth, VE.Direct, and VE.Can ports. This enables not just local configuration and real-time monitoring via the VictronConnect app, but also parallel operation with other controllers (up to 25 units), synchronised via VE.Can. A programmable relay, two I/O ports, and remote on/off functionality allow flexible system control, and the controller accepts BMS “allow-to-charge” signals from compatible devices.
In addition to real-time data, the built-in front-panel display provides instant feedback on battery voltage, current, track power per MPPT, and operating status or warnings. Its protection features include over-temperature shutdown, reverse polarity protection, output short circuit protection, and more, ensuring robust and safe operation.
This charge controller is well suited for specifiers, energy system designers, and installers working on commercial PV, telecom, or large residential battery projects. It operates reliably in a broad temperature range, from –40 °C to +60 °C, making it appropriate for demanding outdoor or enclosed system environments.
