The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/85 MC4 VE.Can is a high performance MPPT solar charge controller designed for demanding trade and commercial energy systems. Built to support larger off grid, marine, vehicle based and remote power setups, this controller delivers up to 85 A of charge current and works with 12 V, 24 V and 48 V battery banks, with 36 V available through manual selection. It accepts PV arrays up to 250 V open circuit and works with a maximum operational PV voltage of 245 V. When paired with a 48 V battery system, it can manage up to 4900 W of solar input, making it suitable for multi panel and high yield installations.
The unit features a durable blue enclosure (colour code RAL 5012) with a compact footprint of 216 x 295 x 103 mm and a weight of 4.5 kg. Protection ratings include IP43 for the electronic section and IP22 for the connection area, helping ensure longevity in harsh or mobile environments. Standard MC4 connectors make integration straightforward for professional installers.
Using ultra fast Maximum Power Point Tracking technology, the controller continually optimises energy harvest, particularly when light levels vary or partial shading occurs. Built in Bluetooth provides quick setup and system monitoring through the Victron Connect app, while VE.Can and VE.Direct ports support advanced communication and system expansion. Up to 25 units can be connected via VE.Can, allowing synchronised charging and centralised monitoring through a GX device or the Victron Remote Management portal.
The SmartSolar 250/85 MC4 VE.Can offers proven protection features including PV reverse polarity protection, over temperature protection, short circuit protection and reverse current protection. Eight pre programmed charging profiles are available, including support for lithium batteries, with the option to create custom profiles for specialised applications. The controller can also recover batteries that have been deeply discharged, provided the cells are not permanently damaged.
This model is ideal for trade installers working on larger off grid systems, professional marine electrical setups, commercial vehicles, high demand camper and caravan builds, and remote site or cabin energy systems.
