The Victron SmartShunt 500 A / 50 mV IP65 (SKU SHU065150050) is a robust, all-in-one battery monitor designed for demanding installations. Unlike traditional monitors, it combines a high‑current shunt and monitoring electronics in a single IP65-rated housing, ideal for environments exposed to dust or moisture.
You can monitor battery status via Bluetooth, connecting the SmartShunt to the VictronConnect app on your phone or tablet. It also supports a VE.Direct port, so installers can integrate it with GX devices to monitor battery voltage, current, state of charge, time to go and historical trends.
To support flexible system designs, the SmartShunt includes an auxiliary input that can be used for:
- a second battery
- midpoint monitoring
- a temperature sensor
The shunt itself handles up to 500 A, making it suited for both high‑current battery banks and large systems. The device reports with high resolution: current measurements to ±0.01 A and voltage to ±0.01 V, with an accuracy of around 0.4 per cent for current.
In terms of storage, the SmartShunt retains trend data for up to 46 days, tracking data like state of charge, voltage, current and auxiliary input status. Power consumption is minimal — under 1 mA — so it does not significantly drain the battery when idle.
The unit operates from 6.5 V up to 70 V, making it compatible with a wide range of battery systems. It is rated for operating temperatures from –40 °C to +50 °C, which helps it perform reliably even in harsh conditions. The connection terminals are M10 bolts for secure installation, and the unit comes with two 1.5 m cables (fused) for the positive connection and auxiliary input.
Built to recognized safety standards, the SmartShunt complies with EN 60335‑1, EN‑IEC 61000‑6‑1, EN‑IEC 61000‑6‑2, EN‑IEC 61000‑6‑3, and automotive directive EN 50498. At just 120 mm wide, 101.5 mm high and 54 mm deep, and weighing around 0.42 kg, it is compact enough for trade installations without occupying excessive space.
